Understanding Cumbria Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
From 1 April 2023, Local Government in Cumbria will change. The current six District Councils and Cumbria County Council will be replaced by two new Unitary authorities and a separate Cumbria Commissioner Fire and Rescue Authority.
While the Cumbria Pension Fund will remain as one Fund, the new Administering Authority for the fund, from 1 April 2023, will be Westmorland and Furness Council.
Rest assured, your pension is safe and LPPA will continue to support you and help with your pension queries.
Keeping your pensions separate
Only download the below form if you would like to keep your current Cumbria Local Government pension separate from your pension with your new employer (one of those employers listed above).
Please be aware that you can only keep your pensions separate if you are an active TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment regulations) member.
Submit your completed form here (either as a scanned copy or a photo taken from your phone).
Alternatively, post it to LPPA, PO Box 1383, Preston, PR2 0WR.

If you haven’t already, please read the Pension decisions and choices booklet, before completing the form. You can download it below. This will help you understand the implications of having separate pension benefits.

If you’ve been paying into your Local Government Pension before 1 April 2014 and your pensionable pay is reduced (by you or your employer), your pension benefits from before this date may be protected from losing value. FAQs
Don’t worry. This letter is just for your information only, so there is nothing further you need to do.
Different letters have been sent out to different types of pension members of the Cumbria Local Government Pension Scheme.
So, if you have two Cumbria pensions and are currently contributing to one (active member) but not to the other because you’ve left that role (deferred member), you’ll receive two letters.
You don’t need to do anything as your pensions will be automatically combined.
If you haven’t done so already, you need to read the Pension decisions and choices booklet. If you’re sure you want to keep your pensions separate, you need to complete and submit a Separating pensions form. You can download both the booklet and form by scrolling back up this page.
